Avian Influenza Diagnostic Algorithm

Avian Influenza Laboratory Form

Avian Influenza Serology Request

Avian Influenza

The Health Protection Agency has an extensive section on avian influenza on its website (http://www.hpa.org.uk/infections/topics_az/influenza/avian/default.htm). This is regularly updated and should be consulted regularly.

The HPA guidance describes reporting arrangements in England. In Northern Ireland clinicians should inform their local Consultant in Communicable Disease Control (CCDC) of potential human cases of avian influenza. The CCDC will inform the Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre (NI) who will liaise with the Health Protection Agency Centre for Infections, London. It is important this reporting route is followed to ensure that those who have operational responsibility are informed as soon as possible.

An avian influenza diagnostic algorithm and laboratory request form have been prepared in conjunction with the Regional Virus Laboratory describing the process for laboratory investigation.
