Sexually Transmitted Infections | ||||
|
The most comprehensive source of data on sexually transmitted infections in Northern Ireland is provided by the four genito-urinary medicine (GUM) clinics in Belfast, Coleraine, Derry and Newry. Sexually transmitted diseases are not included in the list of notifiable diseases, therefore we are heavily reliant on these statutory returns (KC60s) from GUM clinics. Data are recorded on gender (and male sexual orientation for certain infections), and for specific infections data are collected on age groups. Area of residence is not recorded. In relation to AIDS and HIV, there is an enhanced UK surveillance systems based on voluntary, confidential reports by clinicians, which is more comprehensive.
